In the 1950s and 60s, two key components were combined in the legendary Navitimer: navigation and timer. With an integrated slide rule, the optimal watch for use as a flight calculation aid was created. To this day, pilots all over the world choose a Breitling Navitimer.

Chronomat – The Chronograph for All Cases

As early as 1936, Willy Breitling recognized the needs of pilots and designed a chronograph with a black dial and luminous hands. The first Chronomat was completely convincing. With two independent pushers, Breitling made stopwatches suitable for everyday use – a milestone that still resonates today.

Superocean – The Diver to 200m

Created to honor Willy Breitling’s 25th anniversary as managing director. This special diver’s watch was water-resistant to 200 meters, placing it in the world of diver’s watches alongside Rolex and Omega.

Breitling: Innovation as a Trademark

Leon Breitling was a pioneer in many respects and had many important findings and manufacturing processes patented. Such as the world-famous chronograph in a simplified version with easy maintenance and slim design.

The invention of the timer / tachymeter changed not only the watch world but also the automobile world. By calculating speeds up to 150 km/h, racing drivers could determine their speed. The police also found this invention extremely helpful – the first speeding tickets in Switzerland were issued this way.

Since 1936, Breitling has supplied the Royal Air Force with technical instruments and develops new innovative functions year after year. Aviation owes a great deal to the Swiss watch brand.

Powerful Manufacture with 5-Year Warranty

Breitling is one of the few watch brands that produces its own chronograph movements and equips them with very user-friendly functions – such as a second time zone.

Breitling has so much confidence in its own movements that a 5-year warranty is granted for every watch with an in-house caliber. All mechanical movements are built in La Chaux-de-Fonds at Breitling Chronometrie under the strictest quality standards. Electronic models are not neglected either and all receive a SuperQuartz movement, many times more accurate than a standard quartz movement.

Special Editions: Tribute to Aviation

The world’s most famous pilot’s watch naturally also has special editions: The Navitimer Aviator 8 Swiss Limited Edition was created to honor the partnership with Swiss International Air Lines. Breitling has been the official timekeeper of this airline for years.

The Navitimer 1 B01 Chronograph 43 PAN AM Edition also shows this connection – a tribute to the airline that shaped commercial travel in the 1960s.

History of Breitling

Breitling was founded in 1884 by Leon Breitling and is particularly known for shaping the watch world with innovations such as the second independent pusher of a Chronomat watch or the tachymeter. The company was family-owned until the late 70s and was then sold to Ernest Schneider, who relaunched the famous models despite times of crisis and even brought new models like the Breitling Aerospace or Chronospace to market. In 2017, Breitling was sold to CVC Capital Partners and is now led by CEO Georges Kern.
