True to tradition: the Breitling Superocean Héritage
The Superocean Héritage is positioned as a classic, sports-oriented diver's watch. The Swiss Breitling Manufacture is thus honoring the first Superocean from the 1950s. The Héritage collection includes three-hand models and chronographs. The main features of Superocean Héritage

Honoring the first Breitling diving watch
With the Superocean Héritage, Breitling pays homage to the roots of its diving watch line. In 1957, the manufacturer of luxury watches launched the Superocean. Originally, it was aimed mainly at professionals, as diving as a leisure activity was not yet widely represented by millions of underwater sports enthusiasts. In 2007, in memory of the first Breitling diving watches 50 years earlier, the manufacturer launched the Superocean Héritage as a separate model series. Although based on the traditional model, the Héritage is not a copy of the original, but rather a reinterpretation that is more timeless than retro. Initially, Breitling also produced it in a 38 mm size, but in the meantime the traditional company has followed the general trend in the industry and offers the 3-hand watches in diameters of 42 mm and 46 mm.
The central feature of a diver's watch is its water resistance. At 200 m, a Superocean Héritage moves within the usual range. It cannot be compared with the extremely pressure-resistant Avenger II Seawolf from the same manufacturer, which is water-resistant to 3000 m and is equipped with a helium valve.
The usual features of a diver's watch include a screw-down crown and a unidirectional rotating bezel. They are also present in the Superocean Héritage. The bezel clicks into place in 120 steps. The bezel only rotates counterclockwise to prevent accidental extension of the diving time. A triangle as a zero position and eleven lines on the bezel divide the hour in 5-minute increments.
Superocean Héritage II
In 2017, Breitling presented the Superocean Héritage II, a redesigned edition of its retro diving watches
Externally, the three-hand watches remained virtually unchanged. Only the bezel is now equipped with an insert made of high-tech ceramic. The actual changes took place inside the watch. There, a B20 caliber based on the Tudor manufacture caliber MT 5612 now does its job.Breitling has also been offering the Héritage II in a version with a 44 mm case size since early 2018.
The Héritage model as chronograph
In the Héritage II series, which will be available from 2017, the Swiss watch manufacturer initially only launched chronographs with a diameter of 46 mm. In these timepieces, Breitling also relied on Caliber B13, offering the timepieces in blue, black and brown, as well as the matching bezel with ceramic inlay. One has to calculate with a price of approx. 4.155 EUR for such a watch model. Directly at Baselworld 2018, the watch manufacturer from Grenchen, Switzerland, presented two extensions of the Héritage II Chronograph. The two versions have the same 44 mm case and differ essentially in the movements used. While in the standard version, the caliber B13 is still running, the date and weekday now appear. The core of the second version is the Breitling Manufacture Caliber B01, which provides a remarkable power reserve of 70 hours. The two counters for the stop minutes and hours of the 3 and 9 are located on the 3 and 9, the small second on the 6 and the date window between the 4 and 5. The subsidiary dials also differ significantly from the dial. There are different variants: White sub-dials on black or blue background and black counters on white background. To buy such a clock, you have to invest about € 5.470. If you want to have it especially expensive, you should take a closer look at the Superocean Chronoworks, which is limited to 100 pieces. The manufacture movement B01 also runs in it, but its 46 mm thick case is made of black high-tech ceramic. You should reckon with € 30.000.- for such a high-quality masterpiece.
The caliber of the Breitling diver's watch
The Breitling 17 movement drives the movement from the first hour of the Superocean Héritage in the 3-hand version. It is used in models with 42 mm and 46 mm cases and is equipped with a date display. The caliber is self-winding and provides a power reserve of 40 hours. The basic module is the reliable ETA 2824-2, which operates at 28 800 vibrations per hour. The first Héritage Chronograph 44 with Bicompax dial features an automatic Breitling 23 caliber, based on a Valjoux 7753, whose stopwatch function measures times up to 30 minutes at 3 o'clock via a subdial. On the second sub-dial, at 9 o'clock, a small second hand moves. The Breitling 23 has an energy reserve of a good 42 hours.
The larger Héritage Chronograph 46, unlike the Chronograph 44 with its bicompax arrangement, has a third subdial. The hour counter at the 6 o'clock position records stop times of a maximum of 12 hours. At 12 o'clock, the minute counter and the small seconds hand are at 9 o'clock. The chronograph 46 shows the current date at the 3 o'clock position. This is the Breitling calibre 13, based on the Valjoux 7750 from ETA, which is also widely used. Just like the Breitling 23, the Breitling 13 has a power reserve of 42 hours.
