History of Oris
Oris was founded in 1904 by Paul Cattin and Georges Christian in the Swiss town of Hölstein. The name is derived from the Oris river flowing nearby. By 1911, Oris is Hölstein's largest employer with 300 jobs and expands to Como, among other locations. First known for pocket watches, Oris begins producing wristwatches in 1925. After the death of Georges Christian, his son-in-law Oscar Herzog took over the management of the company and accompanied it through many ups and downs until 1971. Among other things, the Swiss watch statute, which is supposed to regulate the Swiss watch industry and only allows the introduction of foreign technologies with an official permit. To combat declining sales during World War II, Oris designs an alarm clock with an 8-day power reserve.By the end of the 1960s, more than 40% of the world's watches came from Switzerland, 1.2 million of them from Oris alone. Until the 1970s and 1980s when quartz watches from Asia grew in popularity. This quartz crisis meant the end of 900 watch companies.
In 1970, Oris became part of ASUAG, which was later renamed the famous SWATCH Group, and began making quartz watches themselves. Unfortunately, this still did not allow Oris to match earlier successes and in 1981 Oris stopped making its own raw movements.
But by the decision of the managing director Rolf Portmann and Ulrich Herzog to produce only mechanical watches in the middle price segment, Oris could start a new beginning.
Sports watch for everyday use
The functionality is also evident in the bracelets, as there is a choice between the robust materials rubber and steel. A must-have for such diving watches are the rotating bezels to set the dive time, which of course every model has. Just as important, however, are the screw-down crown and the luminous displays and indices. So that fashion-conscious ladies also come to their taste, there are in the collection also watches with diamond trimming, which are nonetheless fully suitable for diving.Oris Divers Sixty-Five 38mm - buy cheap at Watchdeal®
