Louis-Ulysse Chopard, the son of a farmer from Sonvilier, was 24 when he first conquered Switzerland and then the world. He was an incredibly gifted watchmaker who created artworks with designs. He succeeded early in exporting to places like the Russian court of Tsar Nicholas II.

After moves to La Chaux-de-Fonds and Geneva, the Scheufele watchmaking dynasty from Pforzheim took over in 1943. Chopard Holding SA is still owned by the Scheufele family today: Alongside Karl Scheufele and his wife Karin, their children Caroline and Karl-Friedrich Scheufele also work in the company. Caroline is responsible for the ladies’ collections and the jewellery division, Karl-Friedrich heads the men’s collections and the manufacture in Fleurier.
