Compagnie des Montres Longines, Francillon S.A. is a long-established Swiss watch manufacturer with the oldest registered watch brand in the world. The movement originated in a production facility built in 1832 in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, where the company is still headquartered today. Longines also continued to manufacture its own calibers until 1986.

History of Longines

In 1832, Ernest Francillion founded a watchmaking business in Saint-Imier. Ernest's nephew took over the business in 1854 and bought a plot of land outside Saint-Imiers called the oblong meadows. In French "Les Longines
In 1903, the first ladies' pendant watch was created and only 2 years later, the first men's wristwatch. After that, the company focused mainly on sports timekeeping. One of the most historic records was the Atlantic crossing of the aviation pioneer Lindbergh in 1927. He was also instrumental in the production of a special watch, which simplified the determination of longitude during the flight and was available under his name from 1932.
