Panerai models and prices

On the eve of World War II, Panerai designed the first prototypes of the model now famous as the "Radiomir" for the underwater operations of a special commando of the Italian Navy. To this day, the watch retains many of its features: a large (47 mm) cushion-shaped steel case, fluorescent numerals and markers, bumpers soldered to the case, a hand-wound mechanical movement, and a wide, water-resistant strap of sufficient length to be worn over a diving suit. The Navy's historical archives record that only ten prototypes were made in 1936.
A PAM01316 - Panerai Luminor Marina Specchio Blu 44mm is available from € 7,400 and a PAM00904 - Panerai Luminor Due - 42MM from € 5,440.
After the end of World War II, the Florentine company resumes the technical research started at the beginning of the war and finishes the development of the Luminor. This model is characterized by the crown protection bridge, more robust lugs, the cushion-shaped case of the Radiomir 1940 and a flat, wider bezel. Today's models with this case are named "Luminor 1950".
One of the most popular models is the PAM00973 - Panerai Submersible - 42MM and is available from € 7.390,-, a PAM00797 - Panerai Luminor 8 Days Power Reserve - 44MM is available from € 6.540,- and a PAM01523 - Panerai Luminor Marina - 42MM from € 6.540,-.
Officine Panerai presents to the public a collection of three small edition models: the Luminor, the Luminor Marina and the Mare Nostrum, which are inspired by the historical models used for naval missions during the Second World War and are immediately sought after by enthusiasts and connoisseurs. The presentation of the collection will take place in September 1993 on the cruiser "Durand De La Penne" of the Italian Navy. The Duke Amedeo d'Aosta attends the official ceremony.

Panerai with powerful manufacture

In 2005, Panerai introduced its first in-house caliber and 2 years later, already three completely new calibers developed in-house were presented. P.2003, P.2004 and P.2005, the latter featuring an elegant tourbillon. The Florentine brand has taken up the long tradition of this haute horlogerie complication and at the same time renewed the mechanism: the case with the balance and escapement rotates around an axis that is no longer parallel to the balance but perpendicular to it. The tourbillon case of the Panerai has a rotation speed of two revolutions per minute, whereas the case of traditional tourbillons only rotates by one revolution at a time.

How much does a Panerai Luminor cost?

The price for a Panerai Luminor depends of course - as with all watch brands - strongly on the materials used, the built-in caliber and the functions. At watchdeal.co.uk you can find a PAM01523 - Panerai Luminor Marina - 42MM starting from € 6.540,-.
The PAM00797 - Panerai Luminor 8 Days Power Reserve - 44MM already available from € 6.540.

History of Panerai

Giovanni Panerai settles down as a watchmaker at the Ponte alle Grazie in Florence: this workshop and factory, as well as the first watchmaking school in the city, mark the beginning of the development of the Officine Panerai. The shop then moved to its current location in Palazzo Arcivescovile in Piazza San Giovanni and changed its name to "Orologeria Svizzera" at the beginning of the twentieth century.
With the opening of the Panerai factory in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, in 2002, Officine Panerai has set an important milestone this year. At this location, where Swiss Haute Horlogerie, exclusive design and savoir-faire meet, continuous research and development work offers new technical and functional possibilities. With the first Asian boutique in the prestigious Prince's Building in Hong Kong, Officine Panerai is expanding its presence to the East.
In 2005, Officine Panerai launched its first proprietary movement, the P.2002 calibre with manual winding, GMT function and eight-day power reserve, inspired by the Angelus movement from the 1940s. The calibre name is a tribute to the Florentine brand's watchmaking expertise and commemorates the year in which Officine Panerai opened its manufacture.
In 2016, Panerai will launch the Radiomir 1940 minute repeater Carillon Tourbillon. This is the most technically complex watch produced by the Neuchâtel-based Officine Panerai Manufacture to date: it features the precious tourbillon regulator and the exceptional double minute repeater, based on a sophisticated system of gongs and hammers, which acoustically identifies every hour, every ten minutes and every minute of local time or a second time zone.
Also in 2016, the new LUMINOR DUE collection opens another chapter in Panerai's history. A new case, slightly revised but still faithful to the lines of the classic Luminor, enters the history of Officine Panerai. The new collection is equipped with the Manufacture calibres P.1000/10 and P.4000/10, the slimmest automatic calibres ever developed by the Manufacture Officine Panerai.
